Creating tearable nCloth bubbles

I started writing a post about the video tutorial below a few months back and it slowly started to grow into over five pages of text. I soon realized I had no interest in reading it myself, let alone anyone else, so for the sake of everyone’s sanity I decided to go with a voice-over tutorial instead. I’ve tried to answer all of the emails I’ve received over the past year in the video, but feel free to shoot me a message if there is something I missed or any questions in general.

The clip above is just a quick render in Maya 2017’s new renderer Arnold, with a few playblasts of wireframes showcasing what lives under the hood. The video below is a 50 minute tutorial on how to set up a scene using the bwParticleToBubblePop.py script found here, along with a little bit about which attributes are being set and why. I also talk a little about the nCloth properties and some future ideas I have for the script. I have to apologize for the mic being so close to my keyboard and a few slip-ups along the way, it was a lot to cover!
