Goofing around with xGen

hairball

I have some work coming up that deals largely with hair/fur so I thought I would have a go with xGen to see what sort of results I could get out of it using only the manual after a few hours. I rigged up a simple sphere with eyes and gave it a bit of motion. As I mentioned in an earlier post it’s been years since I’ve done character rigging, and I’m clearly not an animator, I did however have a chance to play with Geodesic Voxel Binding which gave me almost-perfect weight distribution straight away. Albeit this isn’t a difficult character to skin, trying the previous methods of Heat Map and Closets Hierarchy/Distance were pretty awful in comparison. There were many fails, including the final animation, but it came together quickly and with a bit of nDynamics experience it’s just a matter of getting the settings correct.
